Giveaway Announcement ▲ Dear Friends, In business, the year end is for taking an assessment of the accomplishments to date and setting goals for next year. This year, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center made strides in addressing access to care for patients throughout the region. We believe when you need care, you should have it promptly. With a lot of work from our staff, our emergency department decreased the time a patient waits to see a doctor to an average of ve minutes. In our outpatient departments, such as pain management, and our doctors' ofces, new patients can be seen within a week; sick patients are seen the same day. And just last month we opened our seventh community health center in Lisbon. We are excited to welcome new providers who bring new procedures to our hospital. OB-GYN Glasine Lawson, MD, is specialty trained in urodynamics, a procedure that addresses urinary incontinence. General Surgeon Michael Oakley, MD, brings advanced laparoscopic procedures as well as vascular access procedures. Other great additions to our medical team are husband and wife, Uday Lele, MD, medical oncologist, and Rashmi Thatte, MD, hospitalist. Throughout 2017 we will continue to recruit new specialist and primary care providers to ensure you nd the doctor you need close to home. Thank you for trusting us with your family's health. Headquarters now sits on the corner of New York Avenue and King Street at 125 New York Avenue. Additionally, The Foundation is also pleased to announce that North Country native Nicole Gadway has joined our staff as assistant director. Gadway's previous experience in the foundation relations offices of Clarkson University and Geisinger Health System Foundation tie in nicely with current Foundation goals and make her an ideal addition for the team. At the Claxton-Hepburn Foundation, Gadway will focus on enhancing donor relations and fostering employee giving. Year-end gifts are always welcome at the Foundation! "We are following the standards of care that are unique to breast health issues," Dr. Lele says. "That includes screenings, abnormal ndings, cancer diagnosis, and breast cancer treatment." Enhancing that scope of services, the Breast Center has expanded to include a high-risk breast cancer program. The goal of the program is to identify women who are at high-risk for breast cancer and then offer more in-depth options, such as prevention techniques, additional screening modalities, and genetic testing. In the event that an individual is diagnosed with breast cancer, she may turn to the center's multidisciplinary breast cancer clinic. As part of this clinic design, a patient will work together with a surgeon, a medical oncologist, and a radiation oncologist during one meeting to discuss all treatment options and design a plan of care. "Our certied breast patient navigator coordinates the clinic and follows each patient from diagnosis to treatment to survivorship," Dr. Lele says. "This type of collaboration is critical because it closes a potential gap and ensures that we are providing the most comprehensive, complete care."
