PO Box 447 1373 East State Road 62 Madison, Indiana 47250-0447 This publication in no way seeks to serve as a substitute for professional medical care. Consult your physician before undertaking any form of medical treatment or adopting any exercise program or dietary guidelines. Thomas Barley, MD Outside of medicine, Thomas Barley, MD, enjoys spending time with his fiancée – he recently got engaged – and watching basketball. When he's not in the office, you can likely find him on the golf course. DR. BARLEY COMES to Madison from private practice in North Vernon, where he resides. The proud owner of North Vernon's second-oldest home, which was previously owned by city co-founder and Civil War hero Colonel Hagerman Tripp, Dr. Barley began seeing patients at our Hanover Medical Building in August. A love of science drew Dr. Barley to medicine. After earning an undergraduate degree in biology at Wabash College, Dr. Barley enrolled at Indiana University School of Medicine. An internship and residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis followed. A Specialist for All It's not uncommon for internal medicine physicians to specialize in many different areas, for example, intensive care and emergency medicine, or serve as hospitalists, doctors who work exclusively in hospitals. "That wasn't always the case," Dr. Barley says. "When I started practicing, internal medicine physicians were basically the 'nonsurgeon' physician. I did a variety of things from practicing cardiology to working in a nursing home. It was challenging, but exciting." This unique skill set is at the heart of the care Dr. Barley provides today at KDH. "I see many patients with complex conditions that either haven't been dealt with or have remained undetected," Dr. Barley says. "Helping those patients is what I'm good at." ■ Searching for a medical home? Dr. Barley is accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, call (812) 866-3301. Dedicated to Problem Solving For 32 years, internal medicine physician Thomas Barley, MD, has helped people overcome a wide variety of illnesses. Now, he brings his experience and dedication to King's Daughters' Health.
