Greetings, physicians and other healthcare leaders, and welcome to the latest issue of MD News Greater Kansas. Providing high-level, specialized care is a multipronged endeavor. It requires the expertise of an experienced, compa ssionate tea m; t he ava i labi lit y of adva nced technolog y; and close partnerships with primary care physicia ns. A r thritis a nd R heumatolog y Clinics of Kansas (ARCK) has brought together all those elements to deliver e‚ective care to patients from throughout the region. Our cover feature explores how ARCK works to both address symptoms and optimize function among its patients — as well as how early referra ls play a vita l role in successful outcomes. In one of our special features, we learn how patients at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita are benefiting from the world's first fully dissolving stent. The Absorb stent is completely resorbed about three yea rs af ter implantation. This technology represents a major advance in the level of cardiac care available in the region. Also in this issue, James A.M. Smith, DO, explains how a thorough, proper diagnosis of peripheral artery disease is crucial to providing patients e‚ective treatment and helping restore their qua lity of life. In addition, we highlight new evidence of bariatric surgery's positive e‚ect on physical activity and function, and we examine the question of when pediatric orthopedic patients should transition to adult-care providers. Be sure to check out News from around the State, as well, to keep up with other important happenings in hea lth care.
