Welcome to a brand new frontier for MD News. 2017 marks the ongoing evolution of a magazine we've published in the Boston area for more than 15 years now. During that time, it has certainly seen its share of changes, as have both the media industry and the healthcare industry in general. When we began in 2001, it was as a magazine for South of Boston doctors and healthcare professionals. It wasn't long before we expanded into Boston, North of Boston and West of Boston. Eventually, we merged all four editions into a single Greater Boston edition, but in 2016, we returned to our local roots because clients, advertisers and readers told us that they found the publication to be more beneficial when presented with a local focus. So in 2016, we relaunched our South of Boston edition. This issue marks the next step in that evolution with the re-launch of MD News North of Boston. More than that, we've been moved well beyond ink-on-paper. We've long felt it was important to expand MD News into the world of digital publishing, video, social media and more. That's why this issue's cover story exists not only as a magazine article but also as a series of video clips. The additional attention we can give our clients by marketing those videos through YouTube, Facebook and other social media channels adds a whole new dimension to what we do, allowing them to reach not just the physician community but patients, too. And speaking of the month's cover, we always love "first-in-the-region" stories, so it's a pleasure to feature Greater Boston Urology and the latest o•ering for the treatment of prostate cancer. High-intensity focal ultrasound ablation of the prostate has been used for many years outside the United States, but was only recently approved by the FDA for use in the United States. Physicians at Greater Boston Urology have performed the procedure themselves many times before, but only on patients who were able to travel outside the country for their care. Now they're able to perform the procedure locally. As always, I'd like to thank the people who have made the stories in this edition possible.
