FOR ONE IN EIGHT women in the United States, developing breast cancer is a harsh reality. It's likely that you know someone who has had to deal with breast cancer at some point in her life. Lesa Taylor was one such person. Taylor, a wife and mother of three sons, courageously battled breast cancer for two years, and passed away in 2014 from the disease. In her memory, her husband, Jamie Taylor, and the Lexington Cancer Foundation have provided a gift of $30,000 to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. Traditional Bank and Stephen and Lisa Gray also contributed in Lesa Taylor's memory. This gift was used toward the expansion of the KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care at Saint Joseph East, part of KentuckyOne Health. The funds will enhance the center's services, support and outreach through: General renovation New equipment for the pharmacy and infusion suites Completion of a chemotherapy room In addition, a beautiful new consultation room at the cancer center was recently completed. To recognize the Taylor family's bravery and generosity in the fight against breast cancer, this room will have two very important features — her framed pink boxing gloves and a name that honors the memory of Lesa Taylor. For the KentuckyOne Health Foundations, that statement couldn't be more true this year. We've undertaken some significant changes to enhance our ability to share with donors like you the work you make possible, and to raise philanthropic dollars that support our mission of providing hope, healing and wellness to all, including the underserved. Building awareness is critical to successful fundraising. With that in mind, we've launched a new electronic monthly newsletter to share stories of how donors in our community are impacting lives, as well as opportunities to volunteer and support the Foundations. We've also redesigned the websites to add more information on what the Foundations are doing in your communities. These are just a few examples of the changes we've undertaken to get us off to a great start in 2017. Please take time to read the story of Jamie Taylor, who recently made a $30,000 gift to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation to help advance breast cancer care in memory of his wife, Lesa, who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2014. This inspiring story is just one of the many examples of how philanthropy is making a difference every day! Happy reading and Happy New Year! Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy 2017!
