from the Publisher Richard Keene PUBLISHER Central New York RKEENE@MDNEWS.COM (315) 446-8331 T HANK YOU VERY much for read- we examine the world-class health care available right here in Central New York. ing the September/October issue of MD News. Once again, Our cover story features Magnetic Diagnostic Resources (MDR) and its unique collaborative approach to imaging and patient care. Formed in 1985, MDR comprises 51 radiology partners from both Crouse Radiology Associates and St. Joseph's Imaging Associates. Offering services at 11 locations, three of which have 24-hour availability, MDR is the regional leader in imaging technology. As the MDR board has recently approved major upgrades at four of the practice's locations, you can be sure that this group intends to stay at the forefront of patient care. Another feature focuses on Bryant & Stratton College and its Certified Professional Coder program. As today's world of coding requires more specifics, the onus is on practices and hospitals to keep up with regulations or face penalties. Bryant & Stratton College is moving ahead and provides the tools to help your practice solve its coding issues. Also in this issue, Jerry Hoffman, Executive Vice President of the Onondaga County Medical Society, looks at the economic and social impacts large pharmaceutical companies have had in New York State. Medical research in New York supports more than 201,000 jobs, which account for $2.8 billion in wages, $99 million in state taxes and almost $650 million in federal taxes annually. That pays the freight. Over the years, clinical trials and the resulting new medicines have saved many lives. This is a business sector that deserves our respect for its accomplishments, not just the knee-jerk critique of its failures we often hear. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience, one with real local relevance. In each issue, we highlight distinguished and accomplished physicians and practice groups. We also provide updates on the latest medical studies, pointers for managing your practice and a unique look at what is happening in the local medical community. We love to receive nominations for our cover stories, current news from within your organization and feedback on articles. I would also like to suggest that you visit www.mdnews.com to discover a wonderful resource for health care marketing. We are here to serve the physician and health care community. CORRECTION In our previous issue, the byline of the Innovation column erroneously appeared as Christopher Ritch. The column was, in fact, authored by acclaimed futurist Vito Di Bari.
