BICYCLE Safety Scene Riding bikes is a fun activity everyone in the family can enjoy. Before you and your kids take off, keep the following safety tips top of mind: Wear a well-fitting helmet. The rim should rest roughly two finger-widths above your eyebrow line. Make sure the helmet fits snugly yet comfortably, hugging the head when your mouth opens widely. Check with your local fire department or bike shop for a helmet fitting. Select bright-colored or fluorescent clothing. Bright colors help keep you visible to drivers on the road. Check it before you wreck it. Make sure bike tires are properly inflated and brakes work well. Go with the flow. Ride in the same direction as, never against, traffic. Use your "blinker."
