1943 1990s White County Medical Center becomes Unity Health The growth of the hospital culminated in an entire new name and brand, Unity Health. In 2015 the three hospital affiliates became known as Unity Health – White County Medical Center, Unity Health – Specialty Care and Unity Health – Harris Medical Center in Newport, acquired in 2015. 1940 The hospital, for the second time, received the Arkansas Governor's Quality Award. Governor Mike Beebe awarded the hospital with the highest level of recognition presented to state organizations that demonstrated outstanding performance through their practices and achievements. 2015 2012 1989 Hawkins Clinic Hospital Dr. M.C. Hawkins opened Hawkins Clinic Hospital in July of 1940. The hospital had 26 beds, a clinic, surgery room, delivery room, nursery and examination rooms. New Life Center In 1989, the hospital had a 21 percent increase in patient days over the previous year and another milestone was reached with the addition of the New Life Center. White County Memorial Hospital was now the first hospital in Arkansas to offer labor, delivery and postpartum recovery in one setting. Wayne Hartsfield (left) talks of change The 1990s included a decade of growth and expansion, and the hospital decided to change in classification from a governmental, public institution to a private hospital. Porter Rodgers Hospital Dr. Porter Rodgers purchased the Wakenight Sanitarium in 1943, expanding and renovating the facility. The name was changed to Porter Rodgers Hospital and was titled this until 1975, when a new facility was being constructed at 1200 S. Main St. in Searcy. Unity Health Wellness Today 5 WINTER 2017
