This issue's cover story examines Crouse Health Network and its unprecedented information-sharing capabili- ties that allow primary care physicians, specialists and hospital providers to better manage patient care and costs. According to the American Hospital Association, "clinical integration is needed to facilitate the coordination of patient care across conditions, providers, settings and time in order to achieve care that is safe, timely, e•ective, e„cient, equitable and patient-focused." Today, Crouse Health Network develops population health management tools, analyzing data from insurers, providers and Crouse Health, and producing actionable recommendations to help reduce expenses and improve quality across the care continuum. In addition, our interior feature highlights the ECMO program at Crouse. Twenty years after first providing extra- corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to premature and critically ill infants, Crouse has developed an adult ECMO program that boasts a combined respiratory and cardiac mortality rate better than the national average. This is just another way that Crouse is working hard to provide Central New Yorkers with the finest in health care.
