Summer 3 Sur viving & Thriving 6 A Trip of a Lifetime 8 Two Blessings 11 Hit the Trail Dear Friends, This year, as many of you know, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System is commemorating 100 years of serving Texarkana and the surrounding communities. As we celebrate our past, we're also shaping our future. One way we're doing so is by adding new providers, including a cardiovascular thoracic surgeon. On June 1, Thomas Hoang, M.D., will join our medical staff from the Dallas area. Dr. Hoang is highly regarded in his field and looks forward to working with patients to improve their heart health. One of the upcoming initiatives I'm most excited about is an emergency department (ED) telemedicine partnership with Children's Health in Dallas that will enhance our ability to evaluate and treat ill and injured children. This relationship will allow emergency medicine physicians in the EDs at our main campus and CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital– Atlanta to communicate with Children's Health clinicians from a variety of pediatric subspecialties 24/7 via video connection. In some cases, remote access to pediatric specialists at Children's Health may allow us to keep young patients close to home, at CHRISTUS St. Michael, rather than transferring them to Little Rock or elsewhere for care. We treat around 12,000 children a year, and doing what's best for each of them is our top priority. Utilizing our local pediatric experts coupled with pediatric subspecialties via technology is a way of doing just that.
