Spotlight on Dr. Gharagozloo A longtime member of the medical staff at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, “Dr. G” thrives on patient interactivity in the field of radiology. For Ali Gharagozloo, MD (known as “Dr. G” by his patients), the specialty of radiology offers opportunities to be involved in patient care, providing diagnostic support to other physicians. Radiology encompasses all the systems of the body, and this diversity intrigues Dr. G. As an interventional radiologist, Dr. G uses cutting-edge diagnostic procedures with minimal harm to patients. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida, Dr. G completed residencies at SUNY Upstate and at Boston Children’s Hospital. He joined the staff at Claxton-Hepburn in 1996 and was impressed by the hospital’s commitment to quality and maintaining national standards. “Radiology is a rapidly evolving field and requires a dynamic hospital to keep with those changes,” says Dr. G. “Our radiology department is on par with any university medical center across the country.” Dr. G is especially inspired by Claxton-Hepburn’s commitment to providing breast care. Believing that the future of medicine is treatment tailored to each individual patient, Dr. G knows patients receive just that in the hospital’s new Breast Health Center—all the experts are brought to the patient to organize their care. Spotlight on Dr. Brandy A fascination with science and the way things work drew Kiri Brandy, MD, general surgeon at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, to medicine. A love for fixing things brought her to surgery. “I wanted to do something in a field that provided answers,” Dr. Brandy says. “I like to find something that needs repair, fix it, and be happy with what I did. I’m driven by perfection, and surgery was one of the fields of medicine that allowed me to strive for it.” Growing up in a diverse family with several adopted siblings, Dr. Brandy developed an idealistic view of medicine as a way to help those around her and make the world a better place. This dedication led her to enroll in rural surgery electives while attending medical school at Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. Dr. Brandy brings her expertise in venous surgery to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, as she is the only physician in the area who performs minimally invasive vein surgery. Aside from venous surgery, Dr. Brandy’s specialties include breast surgery, colonoscopy, endoscopy, general surgery—focusing on laparoscopic procedures for hernia repair, colon resection, and gallbladder surgery—and wound healing. Dr. Brandy demonstrates her relentless commitment to patients in her availability, often keeping office hours until 10 p.m. “I give every ounce of myself to my work, and I’m always there for my patients,” says Dr. Brandy. “If I can’t do something for a patient, then I’ll find someone who does it with the same integrity and compassion that I do.” To see a list of the active medical staff at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, visit www.claxtonhepburn.org, scroll over “Find a Physician” and then click “Physician List by Specialty.”
