Hydration! Hydration! Hip, Hip, Dear Friends, As we continue our 50th anniversary year, we look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead. In this issue, we highlight health topics including hydration and skin care as temperatures increase outdoors. Read about our Unity Kids program on pages 4 and 5, as children of the community are able to be ambassadors for Unity Health, while learning the importance of health and wellness, at a young, impressionable age. Elementary schools in our communities encourage students to share their knowledge in the classroom and at home. On page 6, you will find the many ways in which you can contribute to the Unity Health Foundation. The Foundation is vital in providing opportunities to improve healthcare in our region. Lastly, on the back cover, be sure to read how you can get involved in our largest community outreach mission of the year: A Day of Caring. Serving hundreds in our area, this day brings healing and hope for those in need. Be a part of the process and participate with us on July 29. Yours in good health, Ray Montgomery President/CEO On the cover: Unity Kids from Harding Academy: Luke, Will and Allison Giveaway Announcement Find the hidden bird in Wellness Today for your chance to win a $100 gas card. Congratulations to Betty Gardner of McCrory for being randomly selected as the winner of the $100 gas card from the previous issue of Wellness Today. Water is important. In fact, up to 60 percent of the human adult body is water. As a result, getting enough water every day is absolutely essential for a healthy, functional body. While water is a major component of most body parts, its main jobs consist of: 1. Aiding in digestion 2. Regulating body temperature 3. Normalizing blood pressure 4. Protecting organs and tissues 5. Cushioning and lubricating joints 6. Carrying nutrients and oxygen to cells The amount of water we need to stay healthy varies according to age, gender, activity and even where you live. However, the general rule is that men should drink roughly 12 to 13 cups, while women should aim for 9 to 10 cups. If this sounds like too much, don't worry. Foods high in water content such as fruit, vegetables, soups and broths can go a long way to helping you meet your mark. 2 4 6 5 1 3
