S a i n t J o s e p h H o s p i t a l F o u n d a t i o n Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE A Healing Service FOR UNBORN BABIES WHEN PARENTS-TO-BE learn that they are going to welcome a new baby into the world, it's a time of great joy, one filled with hope and love. But the news that the pregnancy will not come to fruition is devastating, no matter how early in the pregnancy the loss occurs. To help families through their grief, Debbie Gibbons, bereavement coordinator with Saint Joseph East, part of KentuckyOne Health, collaborated with Chaplain Kathy Mattone to establish a bimonthly prayer and memorial service and burial ceremony. The services, which are sponsored by the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation and the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, began in February 2015. They are held on the first Wednesday of odd numbered months at 1 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery. "These services are offered free of charge and open to families of all faiths in our community," said Lynnette RauvolaBouta, vice president of mission integration with Saint Joseph East, Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph Jessamine, all part of KentuckyOne Health. "The grief of miscarriage is very real. This service is a powerful way to identify and honor that loss." For more information about these prayer services and burial ceremonies, contact Debbie Gibbons at debbiegibbons@sjhlex.org. THE SAINT JOSEPH HOSPITAL FOUNDATION SUPPORTS MEMORIAL AND BURIAL SERVICES TO HELP FAMILIES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED EARLY TERM MISCARRIAGE AND HONOR THE LIVES OF THE UNBORN BABIES. I often hear from my office window the whipping sounds of helicopter blades hovering over our medical campus as they prepare to land transporting a patient for emergency care. It's surreal to watch the medical team surround the patient on the helipad, and I'm always comforted to know this patient has arrived safely in their arms. This spring, we celebrated the contributions of the physicians, nurses and staff, who work tirelessly every day to provide excellent care to our patients, with National Doctors Day on March 30 and National Nurses Day on May 6. While there are a plethora of stories to share about the impact our medical teams have on the patients we serve, one story rises to the top — that of Carol Dwyer, chief nursing officer for Saint Joseph Hospital, part of KentuckyOne Health. Her continued devotion to building excellent nursing teams through scholarships, training and support is easy to see, not only in her work ethic, but also in her generous giving. Please take the time to read her story and also to thank and honor the medical professionals in our community for their devotion and care.
