CNO Letter Dear Friends, Frankfort Regional Medical Center is a crucial part of the community, providing the resources and expertise needed to help preserve our health. Although my husband, Mathew, and I are new to the area, we think it’s absolutely beautiful here and are excited to be a part of such a welcoming community. Moving from Kansas City, Missouri, where I began my career as a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurse 30 years ago, I recognize the quality care provided by our nursing staff in the NICU—which you can read about on page 6—and throughout Frankfort Regional. Also featured in this issue of Your Health on page 4, our oncology nurse navigator connects patients with a wealth of evidence-based information and coordinates each phase of care. It’s good to be here! Sincerely, Linda Rittermeyer, RN, BSN, MBA, CNOR, Chief Nursing Officer, Frankfort Regional Medical Center Hogs for a Cause 1st Annual Pink Poker Motorcycle Run & Chili Cook-Off, Oct. 6, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., at Frankfort Regional Medical Center For more information, visit FrankfortRegional.com or call 877-FRMC-MC1 (877-376-2631). Meet Dr. Shekleton John K. Shekleton, MD, board-certified gastroenterologist Why I became a physician: As a young child, I would spend time with my father, an internal medicine physician, in his medical office and found his career really intriguing. Science and math came easily for me; so, I thought I could combine those interests with helping others and pursued a career in medicine. In addition to my father, my brother is a mammography radiologist and my cousin is a gastroenterologist. Medicine seems to have a natural presence in my life. Favorite part of my job: During my internal medicine training, I discovered that I really enjoyed doing endoscopic procedures. This motivated me to pursue a gastroenterology fellowship. Best advice I have received: “Shoot for the goal,” from my soccer days; and “Aim for the fairway,” in golf. I apply these tidbits of wisdom in my everyday life and when aiming for long-term goals. My favorite place in Central Kentucky: Malone’s Steakhouse in Lexington. They have the best house salad. I start each day grateful for my family. Clinical interests: Early detection and treatment of colon cancer through endoscopic procedures and colonoscopies. Education background: Southern Illinois School of Medicine Postgraduate training: St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, internal medicine residency and Tulane University Affiliate Hospitals, gastroenterology fellowship. Specialty board certification: Internal medicine and gastroenterology. To learn more about Dr. Shekleton or to make an appointment, call 877-FRMC-MD1 (877-376-2631) or visit FrankfortRegional.com and select “Meet Our New Doctors.”
