Partners in Pediatrics Frankfort Regional Medical Center, Kosair Children’s Hospital, and the University of Louisville have partnered to advance the level of specialty pediatric care and meet the unique needs of kids. By partnering with one of the country’s top-ranked children’s hospitals, Frankfort Regional will receive additional support for pediatric care. Subspecialists from Kosair Children’s Hospital and the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics will see patients at Frankfort Regional on a rotating basis to provide full coverage. These 10 to 15 physicians represent a number of pediatric subspecialties, including endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology and surgery. Bringing Better Care to You Having subspecialists from Kosair Children’s Hospital here at Frankfort Regional means parents in our communities won’t have to travel far to experience the most advanced care and consultations. “The goal of our partnership is to extend access to Kosair Children’s Hospital’s resources and pediatric specialty care throughout the region,” says Amy Walton, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Kosair Children’s Hospital. “By providing subspecialty services in Frankfort, it’s easier for local patients to have access to our special type of care that’s ‘just for kids.’” “It is always our goal to provide the best care possible for our smallest patients,” says Bradley Chase, MD, pediatrician at Frankfort Regional. “We are excited about this partnership and look forward to continuing Frankfort Regional’s commitment to excellence in pediatric care,” adds Chip Peal, CEO. Calming One Little Boy’s Fears Ethan Sizemore, 6, from Lawrenceburg, just wanted to make his little brother laugh by jumping up and down on the couch—until he busted his knee on the frame. “We wrapped Ethan’s knee and headed to Frankfort Regional Medical Center as quickly as possible,” says Tiffany Sizemore, Ethan’s mother. By the time Tiffany parked the car, Ethan was under the care of nurses and Ryan J. Smith, MD, board-certified emergency physician at Frankfort Regional. “Ethan was upset and nervous, but the triage nurses were so nice and calmed him down,” says Tiffany. “Dr. Smith recommended we have X-rays done to ensure nothing was broken.” The impact of the hit caused air to get into Ethan’s knee joint. Dr. Smith consulted with Rick Lyon, MD, board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Frankfort Regional, and decided to perform an emergency surgery to prevent an infection. Once the surgery was complete, Dr. Lyon assured Ethan’s parents all had gone well. “Ethan is doing great now,” says Tiffany. “Thanks to the wonderful people and how quickly he was treated, he was not afraid by the time he went into surgery. We could not have had a better experience.” We're in the middle of an $8.4 million renovation to our Emergency Department to better serve your needs. Phase I was completed in September and the final phase is expected to be completed in May 2013. For more information, visit FrankfortRegional.com.
