Community Education Classes fall/winter 2012 [TexasHealth.org] To register for classes, please call 1-877-THR-WELL (1-877-847-9355). Childbirth Preparation Classes The Childbirth Preparation Class is designed for both first-time parents and experienced parents who have not had previous Lamaze or prepared childbirth instruction. One-day Saturday class Oct. 13, Nov. 3 & Dec. 8 8:30 a.m. — 4:30 p.m. Main Hospital — Rio Grande Meeting Room Registration is $65 per couple, and lunch will be included. Sibling Class The Sibling Class (3 years and up) offers children of expectant mothers an opportunity to learn about the pregnancy and delivery process. They’ll also learn about becoming a big brother or sister and how to help Mommy when the baby arrives. Through games and a tour of Labor & Delivery, this class helps children understand that they are still special and loved. At least one parent, other adult family member or friend must accompany children. Saturday class held every other month Nov. 17 10 — 11 a.m. The Center for Women — Trinity Meeting Room $10 per child Breastfeeding Class The Prenatal Breastfeeding class is designed to help the expectant mother and her partner prepare for breastfeeding. This course will include advice on getting started, avoiding problems and building confidence with nursing your infant. We encourage a partner or other family member to attend with the mother. A board-certified lactation consultant teaches all breast-feeding classes. For expectant mothers 28 to 35 weeks. Classes are on Tuesday evenings or Saturdays. Must have a minimum of two people registered to hold the class. Tuesday classes Oct. 16 & Nov. 13 6:30 — 8:30 p.m. The Center for Women — Trinity Meeting Room Registration is $20 Advances in Medicine Join us for programs that educate women about their health care and encourage them to play a more active role in dealing with menopause. Physician-presented seminars at these monthly meetings cover a wide range of topics relating to the physical and psychological stresses that can accompany this phase of a woman’s life. Sessions are held on the second Wednesday of each month.
