Crystal Run Healthcare Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 at the Middletown Business and Professional Women's (BPW) Club scholarship award dinner held June 20 at the Eagle's Nest in Bloomingburg, New York. This year's presentation marks the fifth consecutive year Crystal Run has offered the scholarship, in partnership with the Middletown BPW. This is one of numerous scholarships the practice has given to local high school students pursuing higher education in a healthcare-related field since 2005. Kathryn Heilfurth is a 2017 graduate of Minisink High School and will attend East Stroudsburg University this fall semester, where she will major in nursing. Heilfurth was selected to receive this scholarship based on her academic performance, community involvement and interest in health care. Crystal Run Healthcare has long been committed to giving back to the local community as well as supporting youth education through scholarships. Since 2005, Crystal Run Healthcare has donated nearly $40,000 in scholarships to local high school students. With a festive Mardi Gras theme, the 18th annual Starlight Ball on June 10 raised about $150,000 for Northern Dutchess Hospital. The night of grandeur was held under a lavishly decorated tent on the lawn of the Dutchess County Fairgrounds — one of few venues in the area that will hold the 450 attendees. Honoree Dean Bloch, MD, an obstetrician and gynecologist on the hospital's medical staff who hails from Red Hook, was applauded for three decades of dedicated service and for his outstanding commitment to his patients. Also celebrated was Keil Equipment co-owner Brad Keil, of Rhinebeck, who served on the hospital foundation board for 12 years, including as chair for six of them. Ball Chairs Bruce Cuttler, DDS, with his wife, Joanne Cuttler, and James Wing, MD, a general surgeon, with his wife, Mary Wing, gave touching tributes. Music was provided by The Mystic of Long Island, with gourmet catering by Abigail Kirsch of New York City. Orange Regional Medical Center has been named as Soliant's Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S. for 2017. Soliant Health is a leading specialty healthcare staffing provider and part of Adecco Group, and for the ninth year in a row, it has turned to hospital staff, patients and community supporters to determine the top 20 hospitals worthy of the distinction of Most Beautiful Hospital in the U.S. With more than 50 nominations on average, Soliant opened up the contest to a monthlong voting period to determine its winners. This year, Soliant received more than 100,000 votes and named Orange Regional Medical Center its 2017 winner. As part of the Greater Hudson Valley Health System, Orange Regional serves nearly half a million people living in New York's Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties. Equipped with 383 beds, it employs more than 2,400 healthcare professionals at its main campus in Middletown. Physicians and staff of Crystal Run Healthcare came together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. A total of $2,550 was raised by employees in a variety of ways, including a practice-wide dress down day as well as numerous raffles and bake sales the past several months. Including Crystal Run Healthcare's corporate sponsor - ship, a grand total of $14,550 was donated to the American Cancer Society in support of five local Relays in Sullivan County, Newburgh, Pine Bush, Goshen and Rockland County. Each year, more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries come together to raise necessary funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay for Life movement. At these events, participants and survivors celebrate what they've overcome, remember those who have lost the battle against the deadly disease, and honor those who have fought or are still fighting. The Relay for Life movement inspires all participants to take action against a disease that has taken too much. n Pictured from left are Robert Ladenhauf, Facilities Mechanic; Allison Wingerter, Nursing Supervisor; Barbara LaPorte, Patient Services Representative; Joan Patterson, Director of Nursing; and Mary DeFreitas, Chief Human Resources Officer, during the Relay for Life of Sullivan County, held June 3 at Liberty High School.
