Greetings, physicians and local leaders in health care. Welcome to the latest issue of MD News Mid Hudson. New York in the summertime hosts a myriad of opportuni- ties for athletes to display their prowess. At the same time, athletes of all types — from weekend warriors to the pros — are at risk for injury. However, in this issue our focus is on a specific threat. We turn to the specialists and subspecialists at Health Quest's Heart Center, a division of Hudson Valley Cardiovascular Practice, P.C., where the team assesses athletes at all levels of competition for cardiac risk. This includes athletes with no history of heart conditions who would like to reduce the possibility of exercise-related cardiac events. The Heart Center also performs a range of assessments designed to foster athletes' peak cardiovascular performance. The advanced capabilities available locally are presented in this month's cover feature. Young people with diabetes face a series of challenges as they move into adult care. A feature in our special clinical section about pediatrics examines a new transition model that improves outcomes, including mean A1C levels and the frequency of blood glucose monitoring. We also review findings of an association between air pollution and increased diabetes risk among certain groups of children. In addition, we highlight local healthcare-related events in our People in the News and Local News sections, and we provide insights on practice management and the business of medicine. MD News' multiple platforms can disseminate informa- tion about your organization's treatments and technologies to referring physicians.
