Physicians and healthcare professionals in Northeast Ohio strive to improve quality, expand access, and increase efficiency in the delivery of care. The stories found in this issue of MD News Cleveland/Akron/Canton provide evidence of the work and progress being made toward those goals. Our Cover Story introduces the new Adult Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Cleveland Clinic Akron General, which brings state- of-the-art epilepsy care to physicians and their patients in Summit County and beyond. Featuring the most advanced all-digital video EEG (electroencephalography) equipment available, the facility is staŠed 24/7 by a team of nurses, EEG technologists specializing in epilepsy, and world-renowned epileptologists from the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center. In our Hospital Spotlight, we feature Summa Health Medical Group – Oncology, one of only 190 practices in the nation, and one of only 12 in Ohio, accepted into CMS' new Oncology Care Model (OCM) program last year. OCM includes the entire spectrum of care provided to a patient during a six-month episode that begins with chemotherapy. Participating practices must drive continuous quality improvement, and the results are measured. Our Clinical Section includes articles from local physi- cians — about a multidisciplinary approach to kidney stone disease in children and teens, advances in treating arthritis with Total Ankle Replacement, and the cultural revolution in end-of-life care. There's also a research article on beta- amyloids and treatment hopes for Alzheimer's Disease. Lastly, the business of medicine continues to advance, and we have a host of articles that keep you up-to-date on changing technology, reimbursement and legal issues that will impact the way you practice.
