Life Stories Life Stories WE CELEBRATE THE STORIES OF OUR LIFE CREDIT UNION MEMBERS. WE LOVE HEARING HOW YOU ARE "GETTING THE MOST OUT OF LIFE!" SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US AT LIFESTORY@LIFECU.ORG. MY LIFE STORY I have been a Credit Union member since 2008, but it is much more than a credit union to me; it's like family. Daily, I try to recruit new members and am so proud that my oldest son is now a Life CU member. My husband and I have been very blessed by all the opportunities that life has given us—not only this life that we live, but also Life Credit Union. So much so that when we purchased our houseboat last year, he and I both instantly knew that we wanted "Life" to be in the boat's name because of how much this credit union has done for us; so came the name, "Anchored Life." We are anchored in our love, values, belief and each other. —Dawn Gibson, Life Credit Union member since 2008 LEARNING FOR LIFE! Nancy Shea, a long-time Life Credit Union member, never expected the information she learned at a recent Life CU seminar would come in handy so quickly. Nancy attended the Safe Seniors Fraud Prevention session, and she is glad she did. A few weeks following the seminar, she received a suspicious call from someone who identified himself as a debt collector. Nancy sensed something wasn't quite right. Because of the information she learned at the seminar, she felt empowered to question the suspicious caller and try to find out if the call was legitimate. The caller didn't resolve her concerns. Later, she received a questionable letter with a bill of fraudulent charges from the same company. Nancy shared, "Every consumer has a right to check out the credibility of a business." As she learned to do during the seminar, she contacted the Tennessee State Department of Commerce and Insurance and asked about that business. They confirmed the company that had been contacting her was not listed on the state business directory. Next, Nancy filed a consumer complaint with the Division of Consumer Affairs to have the company placed on the watchdog list so all consumers could be aware. She shared her story to help protect other consumers and encourage members to know Life CU is working for them. Nancy says she is looking forward to the next seminar. We are grateful Life CU members feel empowered to speak up for their financial protection. Thanks, Nancy, for sharing your story!
