PO Box 447 1373 East State Road 62 Madison, Indiana 47250-0447 This publication in no way seeks to serve as a substitute for professional medical care. Consult your physician before undertaking any form of medical treatment or adopting any exercise program or dietary guidelines. New Albany native and Hanover College graduate Sarah Shewmaker, MD, recently returned to our region to care for patients at every stage of life. "I wanted to work where I could see patients in both a clinic and a hospital, which is great for continuity of care. That is rare in medicine these days, but it's what King's Daughters' Health offers – and it's one of the main reasons I chose to practice here." – Sarah Shewmaker, MD, family and internal medicine physician at KDH WHEN SHE WAS a child, Dr. Shewmaker, a board-certified family and internal medicine physician, dreamed of either going into medicine – or becoming a ballerina. "My mother helped me realize that working in medicine would be a bit more stable," she says. "I also realized I enjoyed thinking on my toes more than dancing on them." Time spent in hospitals with sick family members sparked an early interest in uncovering the causes of illness and helping patients return to the activities they love. Dr. Shewmaker graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013 and completed a residency in family and internal medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis this summer. A Wellness Partner for Life Dr. Shewmaker recently joined King's Daughters' Health and sees patients at the Downtown Medical Building at 630 N. Broadway St. in Madison. She provides preventive and chronic- disease care, as well as wellness services, to patients from infancy to late adulthood, with a special interest in geriatric medicine. "Every patient I see has had a host of unique experiences that have shaped his or her health," Dr. Shewmaker says. "My job is to listen to patients' stories and use my skills to determine the most likely cause of their problems. I like to educate them about all available treatment options so they can choose whichever one they're most comfortable with." ■ ■ To schedule an appointment with Dr. Shewmaker, call (812) 801-8620.
