ADA and NBS Co-Locate Fall Market ADA and NBS have partnered to co-locate their 2017 Fall Athletic Buying Sessions. The joint event will be held November 10-12 at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK. Both NBS and ADA will maintain its own identity during the event, while shar- ing a joint buying experience. The synergy between the two buying groups will allow show exhibitors to save travel time and expenses by attending a single event. In addition, members from both groups will benefit from seeing more industry ven- dors at one location. "We are excited for this opportunity. Not only will it save time and money, it will allow us to reinvest in growing the team and retail athletic business," says NBS president Jim Chandley. "This is a positive step for both of our groups as well as our show ven- dors and sales reps. This will improve the productivity of the show for all attendees while reducing the costs that were associated with vendors attending multiple shows," adds ADA president Pete Schneider. Q END ZONE / NEWS Team Insight Writer Engages in Hoops Diplomacy During a recent trip to England, Team Insight writer Mike May, along with his two children, bridged the international gap through the sport of basketball. May, together with his son Trevor, 24, and daughter Emily, 23, visited England's Isles of Scilly to conduct an introductory basketball clinic for 80 local school children. The Isles of Scilly (pronounced "silly") are located roughly 30 miles off the southwest coast of England; accessible only by air or by sea, the Scillies are an island archipelago where there are more than 100 islands, atolls and rocky outcrops, but only five of the islands are inhabited. The combined population of those five islands is roughly 2000 people. The basketball clinic took place at the Five Islands School, located on the main island of St. Mary's. May (in black in third photo above), who is also the head girls' varsity basketball coach at Berean Christian School in West Palm Beach, FL, and his family shared their passion for and knowledge of basketball with local school children who have had a limited amount of exposure to the sport. During the afternoon clinic at the Five Islands School, the May family taught the fundamentals of the game — drib- bling, passing, catching, shooting, rebounding and defensive positioning. During the clinic, all three members of the May family wore matching T-shirts that reflected the newly designed May Family Global Basketball brand. Putting a local and industry touch on the clinic, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA, provided support for this special basketball program, Spalding donated a dozen balls and Point3 Basketball pro- vided apparel worn by the Mays during the clinic and given away to some of the student participants afterwards.
