Santa Claus Is Coming to Town! Staying on a sleep schedule during the school year can be a challenge for parents and kids alike. But making sure your child is well rested can help improve his or her concentration in the classroom. Your child also needs the proper amount of rest for healthy emotional, mental, and physical development. When he or she is sleep deprived, your child may have problems with academics and behavior. The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following amounts of sleep for school-age kids: • 3- to 5-year-olds—10 to 13 hours • 6- to 13-year-olds—9 to 11 hours • 14- to 17-year-olds—8 to 10 hours Bedtime Tips Set the stage for a good night's sleep by making sure your child or teen is getting plenty of exercise during the day and avoiding caffeine in the late afternoon and throughout the evening. Turn off electrical devices such as computers, smartphones, and televisions an hour or two before bed. Establish a bedtime routine that may include a bath or time with a book. Keep your child or teen's room cool, dark, and quiet. To find a provider with CHI St. Francis Health, visit www.sfcare.org. It's a long trip to Breckenridge from the North Pole, but Santa and Mrs. Claus are up to the journey. Mark your calendars! The first couple of Christmas will visit children at CHI St. Francis Health on Tuesday, December 12. Your family can meet the jolly pair and take pictures with them from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus are bringing more than their holiday cheer to CHI St. Francis Health— Santa's helpers are coming along as well! They will be on hand to guide children through Santa's Gift Shop, where your little ones can buy gifts for friends and family at $1 an item. Santa's Gift Shop will stay open from 5 to 8 p.m., or until all of the gifts are gone. Your children can learn the importance of generosity and giving this holiday season as they shop for others. Instead of cookies, Santa asks that you consider bringing an item for the Richland/ Wilkin Food Pantry to spread the spirit of the season beyond the walls of your home.
