Hershey Medical Center's commitment to innovative care: + Researchers on the Penn State Plastic Surgery team may revolutionize diabetes treatment through the development of stem cell-derived ß-cells, eliminating ethical concerns about the use of embryonic stem cells. + Performed by surgeons at Penn State Neuroscience Institute, MRI-guided laser ablation can be an e‡ective alternative when brain cancer recurs or patients are not candidates for first-line surgical excision of tumors. + Dorsal root ganglion stimulation therapy provides relief for patients with complex regional pain syndrome and peripheral causalgia who do not gain adequate pain control with conventional medication and spinal cord stimulation. + Many patients with heart rhythm disorders benefit from Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute's use of a next-generation leadless pacemaker, the Micra, which helps eliminate issues such as lead dislodgement.
