DEAR PHYSICIANS: Former Johns Hopkins University Director of Pediatrics and Johns Hopkins Children's Center Physician- In-Chief George Dover, M.D., spent decades seeking ways to improve graduate medical education. When All Children's Hospital integrated with Johns Hopkins Medicine, he saw opportunity and inspired our team to introduce innovations that align our residency program with the needs of students of the modern era. This issue of Leading Care displays how Johns Hopkins All Children's collaborates on solutions to meet a variety of challenges. The congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) program, led by Dr. David Kays, oers a treatment concept that achieves success at rates far higher than the national average for this birth defect. The hospital's Institute for Brain Protection Sciences is developing mental health pain management protocols that we believe will become the standard of care in Florida. The medical sta oce helped refine a physician onboarding process that dramatically reduces the time it takes to get physicians credentialed and seeing patients. Our team seeks more solutions through analyzing health informatics and conducting a range of research, including refining minimally invasive surgical techniques and unravelling rare medical mysteries such as the case of Nicholas, whose family searched across the country for an answer before Dr. Jennifer Leiding found it. New challenges constantly arise, but with the team we have and the trainees we are developing, we know we are ready to meet them. Sincerely, Jonathan M. Ellen, M.D. President, CEO and Physician-In-Chief Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital Vice Dean and Professor of Pediatrics Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Fall 2017 3 President's Letter
