MIKE RAGAIN, CMO
Dear colleagues,
In this issue of
Physician Notes, we
feature a patient,
Justin Goebel,
who experienced a
traumatic accident
and was airlifted
to UMC Health
System, the
region's only Level 1 Trauma Center, for
the extensive care he needed. While he
underwent a long hospital recovery, his
wife, Ika, was pregnant with their second
child. e couple decided to move her
prenatal care to UMC so she could be close
to Justin. She gave birth to their son, Luke,
at UMC, and all the doctors who cared for
Justin wanted to meet their baby and be
part of this story's happy ending. To be able
to accommodate Ika's prenatal care and
labor during her husband's recovery was
important to us as a health system.
We all have women we love in our lives,
and we want to make sure they get the
best care possible. at is why we work to
advance and improve the care of women
in all we do. Our personnel, programs,
facilities and technology are in place to
enhance the care of women in our region,
creating a health system that is effective,
convenient and accessible.
We make an intentional, focused effort
to serve the women in our community with
a high level of care. We recently received
the Women's Choice Award for patient
experience. In our last issue, we featured
James Henderson, M.D., who is committed
to taking breast imaging to the next level,
helping to detect breast cancer early and
in its most treatable stages. In this issue,
we talk to Jason Wischmeyer, M.D., an
interventional cardiologist who is focused
on keeping the hearts of the women we
love healthy.
UMC has recognized a need to put
women's health programs in place to deliver
care effectively to all of the women we love.
Sincerely,
