for Our Neighbors The need for charity care in Eau Claire and the surrounding regions is substantial. Sacred Heart HOSPITAL answers the call with our Community Care Program. As part of our mission to care for the health and well-being of all our neighbors, the Community Care program provides funds for medical care at Sacred Heart for those unable to pay. People who qualify for Community Care may: Have insurance, but are not able to afford co‑pays or deductibles Have no insurance Have no other means of assistance, including Medicare or Medicaid Meet income and asset criteria The tiered coverage program may partially or completely forgive Sacred Heart Hospital bills for these people. Only hospital charges are covered; the program does not extend to physician or anesthesiologist fees, elective procedures, or other services. $5.6 million Hospital bills for those in need forgiven by the Community Care program in Fiscal Year 2012 Neighbors Like Us Twelve percent of adults in Eau Claire County lack health insurance, and many more are underinsured. “Job loss and rising prices have made it difficult for many people to pay for medical care,” says Jeff Halloin, Sacred Heart Hospital Board Chair. “For people who don’t qualify for Medicare and Medicaid, our Community Care program fills an essential gap.” Friends of Community Care The Friends of Sacred Heart Hospital Community Care fund consists of donations made especially to fund hospital care at Sacred Heart. “This is a gift that yields tangible results today,” Halloin says. “A contribution to the Friends of Sacred Heart Community Care fund goes directly toward medical care for those who need it.” To apply for assistance from the Community Care program, visit sacredhearteauclaire.org/community-care. Hot Meals for the Homebound “Meals on Wheels provides healthy options for seniors who face the serious threat of hunger,” says Christine M. Thompson, RD, Director of Nutrition Services at Sacred Heart Hospital. “This important program helps improve the quality of life for seniors, and it often impacts their ability to live in their own homes. It’s more than a meal—it’s a relationship that gives people a sense of independence, security, and comfort.” Meals on Wheels is available to people who are over 60 and homebound, and much of the cost is covered by Sacred Heart. A younger person with a disability may also qualify. 25+Years that the Meals on Wheels Program has been a vital part of Sacred Heart Hospital’s community outreach program 67,363 Home-delivered meals prepared by Sacred Heart Hospital in Fiscal Year 2012 Voices of Our Sisters “The healing that Jesus shared continues both spiritually and physically in our modern times through our core values of respect and care.” —Sister Christa Ann Struewing, OSF
