Experience Lasting Weight Loss IN THE PAST, YOU ATE LESS AND FREQUENTED THE GYM MORE TO SLIM DOWN, BUT YOUR MOTIVATION DWINDLED WHEN THE SCALE STOPPED REFLECTING YOUR EFFORTS. EVENTUALLY, YOU GAVE UP HOPE THAT CHANGE WAS POSSIBLE. Stories like this are common, but they don't have to be. Rapid weight loss is attainable. If you want help getting started, consider participating in Way to Weight Loss, a medically supervised weight management program at the Washington Health System Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center. On average, participants lose 12 to 16 percent of their initial weight in 24 weeks, which is a difference you can see. To join, all you need is physician clearance and 60 minutes a week to set aside for six months of support group sessions led by registered dietitians and exercise physiologists. "is program is about shiing mindsets in order to build and maintain lifelong healthy habits," says Kendra Boni, ACSM, EP-C, XPS, Fitness Manager of the WHS Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center. "We offer yearlong support groups for program graduates, in case they want help with accountability for the road ahead." START A NEW CHAPTER In this program, you'll learn how to use the following tools to your advantage: » exercise strategies » low-calorie, high-protein meal replacements » meal tracking » meal plans packed with fruits, vegetables and lean protein "We give participants ways to tweak how they consume and expend energy," says Andie Lugg, RD, LDN, Nutrition Coordinator at the WHS Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center and part of the Way to Weight Loss team. "My role is to coach you," Lugg says, "and keep you accountable for attending classes and making progress." What inspires Lugg about the program is how it looks at many angles of weight loss without singling out food intake. "It takes patience and dedication to get where you want to go," Lugg says.
