Since education is key to success, we want to create pathways for healthcare workers to maximize their potential. Our new nursing program looks to accomplish justthat." – Brooke Sydow, EdD, workforce program developer at HRMC HRMC PROVIDES EXCELLENT CARE for the people of Huron and the surrounding area, even though we're not located in a major city. Having high-quality health care close to home is incredibly important to any community, and delivering that care is what we do every day. To do that, we need enthusiastic and qualified nurses. Unfortunately, qualified nurses are becoming harder to find due to a nationwide nursing shortage. "Research overwhelmingly shows a long-term need for registered nurses (RNs) across the region," says Brooke Sydow, EdD, HRMC workforce program developer. "At HRMC, we were concerned to see our open positions continue to exceed the number of qualified candidates. We realized that we had to make an aggressive effort to combat this issue." The solution? Instead of starting from scratch, the hospital returned to its roots of growing local nurses right here in Huron with a local associate nursing program. Backed by established accreditation and years of experience, Southeast Technical Institute will open a satellite registered nursing program in Huron with classes beginning in August 2018. Affordable, Accredited and Close toHome The Huron Nursing Program is designed to help existing licensed practical nurses (LPNs) earn their registered nursing (RN) degree in an accelerated amount of time. Working LPNs will be able to complete all coursework and hands-on training, as well as sit for their RN board exams in just one year after starting the program. To make learning convenient for the students and utilize the latest technology, the Huron Nursing Program will follow a hybrid format. This means coursework will be offered online, lab experiences will take place at the Huron Community Campus and students will get clinical experience at local healthcare organizations, including HRMC.
