F.A.C.H.E. In his previous role as chief
operating officer, Funderburk led a
service-centered cultural transformation at
UMC that garnered national recognition
for patient and employee satisfaction. e
relationships he's built during a 27-year
career at UMC — inside the hospital and
with local and regional partners — will
serve us well as the organization enters an
exciting new chapter in its history.
Our antibiotic stewardship program,
which you can read about in this
issue, plays a key role in one of Mark's
major efforts: improving patient safety.
e program provides oversight for
antibioticprescribing. Our microbiology
laboratory — one of the most
technologically sophisticated hospital labs
in the country— helps clinicians tailor
the antibiotics they prescribe to patients'
specific pathogens, reducing bacterial
resistance. at keeps all of us safe.
