The thought of permanence is a natural occurrence for many of us as we turn the page on a year past. And for professionals in healthcare, this can be even more prevalent, as change has become the new normal. So, when we hear about a physician practice that has bucked this trend — and done so for more than 30 years — it's a story that has to be told. Northeast Ohio Nephrolog y Associates, founded by Dr. Joseph Zarconi and Dr. Christopher Boshkos, has been providing care for patients su‚ering with complex nephrologica l disorders — as an independent group — since 1987. That's quite a feat these days, and the nine physicia ns in the practice attribute their longevit y and success to a shared focus that remains centered on the qua lit y of the ca re they provide, rather tha n the quantity of care. Their inspiring story is our cover feature in this issue. Quality is also the impetus for most medical advances, a nd Dr. R a fa l St achow icz , a n or t hoped ic su rgeon specia lizing in hand and upper extremity surger y at Crystal Clinic, details minimally invasive arthroscopic/ endoscopic ha nd surger y, a nd how cha nges in this approach continue to improve outcomes. Speaking of change — this issue also details an update from the OIG on physician-hospital gainsharing arrange- ments, and an investigation into the constantly-evolving cybersecurity regulations that govern how hea lthcare providers do business while maintaining compliance with HIPA A . We hope you'll enjoy these and a ll of the articles in this issue of MD News. Thanks for reading.
