was by the hot water tank. 2008… The year we started this magazine doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Suddenly, however, I look back a decade later and realize that, yes, it was... my, how quickly those years have flown by. Back then my wife, Tammi, and I had been married just under six months and were still considered newlyweds. At the time we had just one daughter around the age of 11. I was doing ALL I could to start this shiny, new direct-to-physician magazine called MD News Greater Kansas. My o•ce was literally in the utility room of the home we were renting, right next to the hot water tank. I never thought anything of it — life was simple, yet still a bit scary. Fast forward 10 years — we now have a full house of seven (so I guess you can say life's still a bit scary). This year, Tammi and I will celebrate our 11th anniversary, we have a home in which God has blessed us with great kids, my o•ce is actually "in an o•ce," I've been blessed to meet and serve a ton of people through several business ventures and, yet still, MD News is right there alongside us. This magazine has been a huge part of my life, thanks to all the doctors, marketing directors, writers, photographers, designers and many others who help make this thing possible. It's been a total team e•ort. I vividly remember our very first issue: We finally had just enough advertising dollars to unveil the premiere edition. Our first photo shoot was with Drs. Patty Tenofsky and Bruce Elson of what was then Wichita Clinic at Founder's Circle. Dr. Richard DeSplinter was there, as well as Nurse Navigator Terri Leschuk. I was about as nervous as could be as I interacted with doctors who had no idea who we were, but they were very welcoming and treated us with kindness. It went o without a hitch. I will never, ever forget Angie Prather, then Marketing Director at Wichita Clinic. She gave me my very first meeting and believed in the idea to feature doctors, clinics and hospitals and to promote the landscape of Kansas health care. Angie was so darned dedicated to her job, she once posed as a patient (in surgery!) with surgical pen markings all over her knee, all for a photo we'd place in an article a couple years later. It's a total team e•ort. When Wichita Clinic was purchased by Via Christi, Angie kindly introduced me to the fine people there, including Phoebe Richardson and others who are all equally as dedicated. There hasn't been one edition of our magazine put into circulation without their support. Angie, I owe you a ton of thanks and sincerely appreciate you, wherever you are now. To all the doctors, marketing directors, business owners, hospital executives and CEOs who have allowed me into your o•ces, visited over lunch or taken time away from your day for a phone call, thank you. To all the advertisers who have believed in and supported us over the years, many of whom are still with us, my family and I sincerely thank you. With that, we hope you enjoy this 10-year anniversary special edition. As always, it's a total team e•ort.
