SPECIAL SECTION: PROSTATE UPDATE 2 2 ZERO " THE End of Prostate Cancer is a national nonprofit with the mission to end prostate cancer. We're building Generation ZERO, the first generation of men free from prostate cancer, through our national run/walk series, education and patient support programs, and grassroots advocacy. Prostate cancer impacts one in nine men, and ZERO fights to ensure that no man has to battle this disease alone. By advancing research for new treatments and diagnostic tools and educating men and families in local communities, we're determined to ensure all men know their risk. Locally, ZERO's Run/Walk series connects men across the country with an opportunity to raise awareness and funds to do just that. In 2017 ZERO's national Run/Walk series rallied 20,000 partic- ipants across 40 cities nationwide, raising more than $3.3 million to help families fighting a disease that takes the life of an American man every 18 minutes. The Run/Walk promotes awareness for prostate cancer and encourages men to be informed about their risk and early detection, as well as gives participants a voice in the fight to end the disease. We're making prostate cancer a national priority, mobilizing the prostate cancer community to raise funds for vital patient support programs to ensure that no man has to face prostate cancer alone. In San Antonio, ZERO partners with Urology San Antonio and Los Padres to host the ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk – San Antonio at Mission County Park Pavilion. This year's event is an o£cial event of the San Antonio Tricentennial celebration and takes place on Sunday, Sept. 16. It will feature a 10K run, 5K run/ walk, 1-mile walk and Kids' Superhero Dash for Dad. After the race they'll host a family-friendly, after-dash bash! In 2017, the ZERO Run/Walk in San Antonio raised over $115,000, funding Los Padres Prostate Cancer Foundation to provide eight community awareness and education events with over 500 reached and free testing for 116 men. Los Padres was also proud to have provided a grant to UT Health for a study aptly named "Lost Padres." Each year, the race gives the community the opportunity to connect with others who are impacted by prostate cancer. In 2018, more than 12,600 Texas men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Together, we can bring that number down to ZERO. Learn more at zeroprostatecancerrun.org/sanantonio. ■ ZERO PROSTATE CANCER RUN/WALK Returns to San Antonio During Tricentennial Celebration
