CLINT WILL BE saying goodbye to Mercy-Centerville in August. He became president in 2004 after spending seven years in the Mercy Health system. Clint's tenure has brought many positive changes to the medical center. "In my time on the Mercy Board, Clint has provided tremendous leadership and direction with kindness," says Mike Craver, Chair of the Hospital Board. "Clint created a climate of high employee satisfaction where people feel comfortable and enjoy coming to work." Recently, Clint helped establish Mercy-Centerville's Quick Care service. The service provides after-hours and weekend care to the community. He also led the medical center to its first Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award in 2017. "He's been a wonderful person to work for," says Ann Young, Vice President of Mercy Healthcare Experience. "He's probably the kindest person I've ever known. He created a climate in which people feel comfortable and enjoy coming to work." One of Clint's final projects was the construction of a new medical clinic, which broke ground this spring. The clinic is scheduled to open by the end of the year and will be followed by an expansion and renovation of the entire medical center. THANKS TO A generous $250,000 gift from Wayne Waggoner and his family, Mercy-Centerville is able to create an indoor garden room and patio during the current construction phase for the new medical clinic. The clinic and garden are scheduled to open on Dec. 18. "The new clinic will connect to the medical center," says Ann Young, Vice President of Mercy Healthcare Experience. "Anyone who walks through the connection will pass through the healing garden." Long-term-care residents as well as patients and visitors will have access to the 1,100-square-foot indoor garden and 800-square-foot patio. The garden will be named Kathryn's Garden after Wayne's mother, who was one of Mercy- Centerville's first long- term-care residents. A skylight will illuminate the indoor garden. Glass doors and windows are oriented to views of the south side patio. The patio will feature outdoor planters where residents may grow vegetables and flowers. "Kathryn's Garden will be a tranquil area for residents and visitors," Ann says. As part of a larger construction project, the long-term-care wing will also receive a new bath and shower room with an easy-access whirlpool tub for residents to enjoy. Visit www.mercycenterville.org/news for updates about construction progress. Mercy Medical Center-Centerville is installing a healing garden where long-term-care residents and visitors can unwind and enjoy the sunshine. Clint Christianson is retiring after serving 14 years as President of Mercy Medical Center-Centerville. KATHRYN'S Farewell A Fond Gift MERCY MEDICAL CENTER-CENTERVILLE /// www.mercycenterville.org 3
