The increase in fema le enrollment in 2017 coincides with a 1.5 percent rise in total matriculants in American medi- cal schools, and total enrollment is now approximately 90,000 students. However, t he number of st udents who applied to medical schools in the United States fell by nearly 3 percent from 2016 to 2017 — the biggest drop in 15 years. "We are very encouraged by the grow- ing number of women enrolling in U.S. medical schools," Darrell G. Kirch, MD, A AMC President and CEO, stated in a news release about the changing demo- g raphics.
