The annual study, conducted by Truven Hea lt h A na ly t ics, now pa r t of I BM Watson Hea lth, identifies the top U.S. hospita ls for inpatient ca rdiova scu- lar services. T h e W a t s o n H e a l t h 5 0 T o p Ca rdiovascula r Hospita ls study mea- sures attainment in key performa nce areas: risk-adjusted inpatient mortality, risk-adjusted complications, percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammar y ar ter y use, 30-day mor ta l- it y rates, 30 -day readm ission rates, severity-adjusted average length of stay, wage- and severity-adjusted average cost per case, and, new this year, CMS 30-day episode payment measures. "This is the 13th unique recognition that our cardiovascular care currently holds," says Leslie Paul Luke, President a nd CEO of St. Joseph's Hea lth. " The third-party nationa l va lidation of our awards and certifications demonstrate our high-qua lity and innovative hea lth care services." The study, and the subsequent analysis of the positive variances these leading cardiovascular service hospita ls show, indicates an opportunity for a broader nat iona l i mpa c t for ca rd iova scu la r patients, should these results be rep- licated.
