Greater Kansas 05-849 Greetings, physicians and other healthcare leaders, and welcome to MD News Greater Kansas. Kansas, like many states across the country, struggles to provide its residents with an adequate number of behavioral healthcare providers and beds in behavioral healthcare facilities. In our cover story, we learn about how Ascension Via Christi recently dedicated newly renovated space at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph for behavioral health services. The area, which has undergone a more than $50 million renovation, converted its medical units to all private rooms, allowing its Wichita Behavioral Health services to be consolidated and expanded on a single campus. New research sheds light on intriguing associations between smoking and elevated risk of atrial fibrillation. A feature in our clinical section about cardiology addresses these findings. We also discuss research suggesting that women who give birth to infants with congenital heart defects face greater risk of cardiovascular disease later in life. Our national feature spotlights predictions about where medical costs may be headed in 2019. Other articles in this issue discuss Rock Regional Hospital's new 15-acre medical campus in Derby, Via Christi Clinic's recent name change to Ascension Medical Group Via Christi, and new FDA-approved glaucoma eyedrops and two new minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries that are available at Grene Vision Group. You can leverage MD News' multiple platforms to share information about your organization's capabilities and advanced technologies with referring physicians.
