IN THE MARKET | INDUSTRY NEWS Reed Launches Portland Show West Coast U.S. Functional Fabric Fair to Debut in Fall 2019. uilding on a successful U.S. launch of the Functional Fabric Fair powered by Performance Days held last summer in New York City, show organizer Reed Exhibitions is adding a West Coast version of the trade event. Slated for Fall of this year, the new sourcing event, featuring products and technologies to kick off the winter 2021 season, will debut October 22-23, 2019 in Portland, Oregon. Concept III Textiles will collaborate with Reed Exhibitions and Design & Development GmbH Textile Consult on the launch event at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. "The trade show model the Weichert family created with Performance Days is what the marketplace wants. We took that model verbatim and brought it to the U.S. and the market loved it. Now we will do it again, bringing the Functional Fabric Fair powered by Performance Days across the county to Portland," said Steve McCullough of Reed Exhibitions. Marco Weichert, general manager of Design & Development GmbH Textile Consult, stated, "The timing, the caliber of programming and exhibits, and the collaboration with Reed Exhibitions and Concept III, promises to deliver a remarkable sourcing event for the outdoor and activewear market." Weichert added, "Having just celebrated our 10th anniversary in Munich this past year and experiencing tremendous industry response with a 50 percent growth in visitors and exhibitors, we are pleased to bring this same standard of business in our commitment to the U.S.-based events." The Functional Fabric Fair powered by Performance Days on the West Coast will include curated exhibits, workshops, industry presentations, professional networking and matchmaking programs. Textile manufacturers, suppliers and service providers will present their performance materials and technical textiles for the winter 2021 season. "The immediate feedback from attendees and exhibitors following the suc- cess of the 2018 NYC show was, 'lets do this on the west coast in the fall,'" said McCullough, who commented that the NYC Fair has doubled in size in its first year to upwards of 120 exhibitors on board for the 2019 edition with a waitlist of 30. Brands that have expressed interest in the new Portland show include Filson, Arc'teryx, The North Face and Patagonia, along with suppliers such as Global Merino and Designer Textiles of NZ, according to McCullough. Both Functional Fabric Fairs powered by Performance Days on the calendar for 2019 will showcase a commitment to sustainability. All materials – from booths to badges – will be recyclable with the goal being a minimal carbon footprint trade show. l Visit www.FunctionalFabricFair.com for more information.
