ST. JOSEPH'S HEALTH NAMED ONLY CNY HOSPITAL ON 2019 LIST OF AMERICA'S 100 BEST HOSPITALS St. Joseph's Health Hospital is the only hospital in Central New York, and the only hospital in New York state with 400 or more beds, to be named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience by the Women's Choice Award, America's trusted referral source for the best in health care. The award signifies that St. Joseph's Health Hospital has been ranked within the top 100 hospitals of similar size based on number of beds, of which there were four categories. The methodology used to select St. Joseph's Health Hospital as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience is unique in that it evaluates specific Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) sur vey results along with primar y research about women's health - care preferences. The Women's Choice Award collects the data for the following HCAHPS sur vey measures and uses a weighted average to award the best hospitals for patient experience: • Effective communication with nurses and physicians • Responsiveness to requests for help • Providing patient recover y information • Explanation about medications before being administered • Bathroom and room cleanliness • Peacefulness of room at night • Patient recommendation rating According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, good patient experience positively correlates to disease management, adherence to treatment plans and health outcomes. Personalized care from providers, including clear communication and sen - sitivity, is a key healthcare priority, ac- cording to a Deloitte sur vey of healthcare consumers. This strong correlation be- tween providing good patient experience throughout her journey and improved clinical quality measures, including increased HCAHPS scores, makes the investment a win-win for all. "This hospital was awarded because it is one of the best at treating their patients the way their patients want to be treated," says Delia Passi, Founder and CEO of the Women's Choice Award. "Hospital choice is a critical decision, particularly for women, who make over 80% of healthcare decisions, and providing a great experience for her throughout her patient journey is a win-win for all involved. Our designa - tion makes it easier for her to choose a hospital where she and her family are more likely to have a better experience and outcome." St. Joseph's Health Hospital is one of 400 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the high - est standards for patient experience in the United States by the Women's Choice Award. "We are honored to be the top choice for women looking for high-quality health care," says AnneMarie Walker- Czyz, RN, EdD, NEA-BC, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at St. Joseph's Health. "The leadership of our founding sisters, including Saint Marianne Cope, was grounded in faith, values and a commitment to ser vice. Our mission has continued with unwaver - ing commitment for the past 150 years. Delivering an outstanding patient experi- ence is among the most important things we do." MVHS INTRODUCES THE DA VINCI XI SURGICAL SYSTEM The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) is pleased to announce the re- cent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, an addition to the da Vinci Si robot acquired in 2017. Surgeons at MVHS use the da Vinci Si for urologi - cal, gynecologic, thoracic, cardiac and general surger y procedures. A new, secondar y robot will allow for the MVHS Robotics department to expand and allow more patients to receive state-of- the-art care. On April 22, Jonathan Blancaflor, MD, Director of Robotic Surger y at MVHS, successfully completed the first surger y at MVHS with the da Vinci Xi, which Dr. Blancaflor says would not have been possible without the specialized ro - botic device. "The surger y went well and the team handled it flawlessly," Dr. Blancaflor says. "This system is a great example of how the advancement of technology will allow us to do amazing things for our patients." The da Vinci Xi surgical system has a motion-integrated table that com - municates with the robot and allows the surgeon to position the patient dynami- cally during the procedure. The system also provides a new overhead arm architecture that is designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually any po - sition. It also has a new endoscope that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved vision definition and clarity. The robot provides the ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, provid - ing flexibility for visualizing the surgical site, and has smaller, thinner arms with newly designed joints that offer a greater range of motion than ever before. "The acquisition of this new robot is a perfect example of the many ways MVHS is bringing advanced medicine and innovation to our region," says Darlene Stromstad, FACHE, President and CEO at MVHS. "The da Vinci Xi allows our surgeons to perform even more complex procedures and show our community that their medical needs can be met right here at home." Patients who benefit from robotic sur - ger y include, but are not limited to, those with hernias, colon cancer and urologi- cal issues.
