Central New York 05-820 PUBLISHER from the Thank you very much for reading the July/August edition of MD News. Once again, we examine the world-class health care available right here in Central New York. In this edition, our cover story focuses on the women's services program at Crouse Health. After more than a century of innovation and growth, Crouse Health remains dedicated to its women's services program — a pillar of the community and a source of quality care. In 1887, a group of women founded the Syracuse Women's Hospital and Training School for Nurses. When the hospital opened, it was the first and only hospital in Central New York to admit women and children. After many name changes and expansions, what is now known as Crouse Health provides perinatal care for 15 counties and receives all high-risk obstetrics and NICU cases for 18 hospitals within its catchment area. Our inside feature focuses on Cortland Surgical Center, which was established in 2014. The Surgical Center specializes in delivering quality surgical care for both adults and children who are experiencing ear, nose, throat, sinus or neck-related problems. The center bears The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval and was selected as one of New York's 50 best small businesses to work for in 2017. Cortland Surgical Center's Founder, Manoj Kumar, MD, functions as both the owner and practicing otolaryngologist. He is assisted by a skilled and experienced clinical and support staff, including Mark Settineri, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 25 years of experience; Deborah Warner, NP, the surgical first assist; three full-time and two part-time registered nurses who are certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced cardiac life support; and two operating room technicians who are certified in surgical technology and have received continuing education in infection control. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience, one with real local relevance. In each issue, we highlight distinguished and accomplished physicians and practice groups.
