Comprehensive, collaborative diagnosis and treatment of challenging conditions that affect infants, children, and new or expectant mothers result in superior outcomes. That is why we are excited to offer an in-depth view of the advanced pediatric care available in our region at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Children's Hospital. Parents want expert care when their children have multiple chronic conditions. They also want a trusted partner to help them overcome socioeconomic or other barriers to effective treatment. The Complex Care team at Penn State Children's Hospital combines coordinated care with robust social support, fostering excellent outcomes and peace of mind. That is the subject of one of our features. In addition, we examine the tertiary-level care available through the Perinatal Program at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Children's Hospital. The multidisciplinary team provides high-level clinical and surgical care along with comprehensive support services, making it the regional referral center for diagnosis and treatment of suspected fetal anomalies. Care extends from early pregnancy through delivery, surgery and recovery. A lso in this issue, our clinica l section on pediatrics addresses research showing that higher rates of obesity- associated cancer among young people imperil progress in the fight against cancer overall. And we examine findings showing relative cancer survival rates among adolescents and young adults from the mid-1970s through the late 1990s were higher than previously believed — after filtering out the impact of AIDS-related cancers. I hope you enjoy reading about the remarkable level of pediatric and perinatal care available in our area and about other advances in this field. The best to you, Susan Ecenbarger
