Hershey Medical Center, recently having established the only skull base surgery team in the region, remains on the forefront of clinical and technological advances in this field. A commitment to providing patients with safer, less invasive techniques locally, along with the ability to effectively treat these conditions while minimizing risk and preserving or restoring quality of life, is highlighted in this issue. Cxbladder, a noninvasive test that could eliminate pain and expense for patients facing a hematuria diagnosis, thus revolutionizing detection of urothelial carcinoma , is now offered via clinical trial at Hershey Medical Center. As part of the team at the only participating academic medical institution in the region, Jay D. Raman, MD, FACS, Chief of the Division of Urolog y at Penn State Health Surgical Specialties, seeks patients at high or low risk for urothelial carcinoma to participate. Our clinical section about bariatrics investigates the potential benefits of undergoing these procedures sooner in life — as early as adolescence — to promote remission of comorbidities, including hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. We also look at the frequent misdiagnosis of pediatric sleep disorders as behavioral issues. We round up other news related to this field as well.
