Rare congenital anomaly. Multidisciplinary care approach. Superior transplant outcomes. Posterior urethral valves is a rare congenital anomaly that affects 1 in 8,000 baby boys. To successfully treat this condition, CHAM nephrologists implemented a strict diet and medication regimen that helped one baby avoid dialysis and gain weight. Following his second birthday, CHAMs surgical team transplanted the boy with an adult kidney from his mother. By taking a multidisciplinary approach to treating chronic kidney disease, specialists at CHAM are achieving one-year renal transplant rates of 100 percent in children under the age of 3.
