AACREDITUNION.ORG | 23 thriving community of weather-responsive humans are busily basking down here, too, on the peninsula's famed southern tip, Cabo San Lucas. Shedding its early fishing village and late 20th-century spring break past, the resort town and neighboring colonial city San José del Cabo welcome nearly 3 million annual visitors to one of North America's prime, A-list tropical getaway zones. Cabo is "one of the best expat destinations in Mexico," says escapeartists.com. Beyond Cabo's sophisticated high-end hotels, buzz-worthy farm-to-table restaurants and thriving tourist infrastructure, snowbirds will find ample residential options (and matching realtors) when exploring the area's homier neighborhoods — from ocean-side villas and condos to gated townhomes and stylish single- family dwellings. While seven-figure-priced luxury residences are now common in the most highly sought areas by the water, prices drop considerably for decked out second-home properties a bit further from town and the ocean. "It's not uncommon for snowbirds' Los Cabos homes to be better equipped and more efficient than their primary residence," says Los Cabos Magazine. Thaw in Oahu Who really wants to compare pineapples to pineapples and rank one luscious Hawaiian island over another? Kudos to the soaring cliffs and waterfalls of Kauai, the beaches and rain forests of Maui and the volcanic sands and smoldering craters of the Big Island. Now, on to Oahu. For Hawaii-bound escapists looking to flee winter on a healthy budget (the Aloha State ain't cheap), Oahu's breadth of offerings are pretty tough to outshine.
