focus on health :::update::: Syosset Hospital Receives J.D. Power and Associates Award for Service Excellence Acknowledging a strong commitment by the hospital to provide “An Outstanding Patient Experience” for our Emergency Services, the award was determined by surveying recently-discharged patients about their perceptions of their hospital visit and comparing the results to national benchmarks established in the annual J.D. Power and Associates’ National Hospital Service Performance Survey. The five key drivers of satisfaction are speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support. “From the moment a patient arrives in the emergency department until the time he or she is discharged, we provide outstanding patient service,” said Marianna Vazquez, RN, associate executive director of patient care services for Syosset Hospital. “We call patients after they’re discharged to ensure that we met their expectations during their visit and that they receive the appropriate follow-up care.” “Our goal at Syosset Hospital is to make the patient experience as smooth and comfortable as possible,” said Michael Fener, executive director of Syosset Hospital. “This J.D. Power and Associates award is a demonstration of the outstanding experience provided by our medical professionals and staff.” For J.D. The award marks the latest achievement in 50 years of top-notch, around-the-clock emergency care for patients. More Relaxation, Educational Opportunities Available Through TV People who have stayed in Plainview Hospital or visited someone there recently will notice that in addition to being able to watch their favorite programs on television they can also tune in to special relaxation, educational and entertainment programming on demand using the bedside remote control. Plainview Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the North Shore-LIJ Health System to receive this television package, called pCareTV, which allows patients to select specific content they want to watch. A new mother, for example, might watch a program showing tips for taking care of her baby. Patients can select the program and watch it like an on-demand program they would see at home. Features include being able to pause and restart the show when they choose. Programs specific to a patient’s condition can also be “prescribed.” The relaxation-related content comes in the form of meditations, guided imagery or just pleasing sounds and sights to help patients sleep as well as handle stress, anxiety and pain. pCareTV has been available at Plainview Hospital since early January. Syosset Hospital is slated to receive pCareTV in the spring. In addition to medications and therapies, doctors at Plainview Hospital are now also “prescribing” some television time for patients. northshorelij.com to Find a community physician near you, call 1-888-321-DOCS.
