10 Growing up just outside of the small-town Sundance, Wyoming – located in the Black Hills and south of Devils Tower, Dan Johnson, Wyoming Land Specialist, is no stranger to hunting big game animals or working on a ranch. Surrounded by ponderosa pine forests, alfalfa hay fields and majestic western rivers, this region gave Johnson a unique perspective for embracing the outdoor heritage and the rich history of the west. "As a kid, the Black Hills of Wyoming were my playground. Bowhunting whitetail deer, elk, antelope and turkey - all within a few minutes of my childhood home," said Johnson. "I spent countless days in the backcountry with friends and family, and as we gained more experience, I continued to venture further from home, chasing mule deer, black bears and the other big game species the state has to offer." After college, Dan worked alongside the largest names in the outdoor industry, creating and producing hunting and outdoor television shows. These opportunities sent Dan all around the world, storytelling and experiencing the different hunting cultures that many folks dream about. After having the chance to travel the country and live these different experiences, the call to return to Northeast Wyoming was strong for Johnson. Dan has yet to find another place on the map, where so many different species of fish and wildlife can be found in such close proximity. When the opportunity arose for Dan to work for Whitetail Properties Real Estate, a result of their western expansion, Johnson jumped at the chance to share his knowledge, passion and expertise of ranching and the outdoor lifestyle with others. "I love being able to showcase all Wyoming has to offer. There is so much value to be realized in so many ways with this incredible state. Sheridan, Buffalo, Sundance, Gillette and Kaycee are a few of the cities and towns where the rare, rich western heritage - lives strong. The Big Horn and Powder River basins carve their way through the region, creating abundant opportunities for fly fishing, hunting in the backcountry, and outdoor recreation with family and friends." "I've spent years of my life taking horses deep into the wilderness. While guiding in the Big Horn Mountains through the Powder River Basin and over to the Black Hills, I've firsthand seen Wyoming's unique and wild beauty of majestic landscapes, combined with an abundance of big game throughout the state. Our large numbers of wild game make all hunting adventures exhilarating, from: whitetails to mule deer, elk, antelope, black bear, mountain lion, and pure-bred merriam's turkey, the diversity of our wildlife is something beyond special." Whether ranching or hunting is your passion, or you are searching for a few acres to call home, Northeast Wyoming certainly has it all. Low taxes, great people, and rural privacy are just a few reasons folks love Wyoming. Enjoy all four seasons of the year, with virtually endless recreational opportunities located right out your front door. "Many people dream about living in the west, but it doesn't have to be just a dream," said Dan. "I live this dream as my reality every day and it's honestly never been more attainable than it is right now."
