Tony Bendall Richard Winslow, PhD KANSAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER HIRES TWO DEANS The Kansas Health Science Center in Wichita, which is starting the proposed Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, has hired Tony Bendall as Assistant Dean for Assessment and Outcomes and Richard Winslow, PhD, as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs. The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine is in the applicant status-seeking accreditation process with the American Osteopathic Association and would become the second medical school in Kansas. Bendall has spent the past nine years working as a founding member of three colleges of osteopathic medicine in South Carolina, North Carolina and Idaho. Before that, he spent 30 years in the field of software design, data analysis and reporting. Winslow spent 16 years with William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, overseeing various student life areas and spent the past six years as the Vice Provost of Enrollment and Student Services at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Missouri. He recently published his first book, Straight Talk for College Parents: An Insider's Guide to Helping Your Student Survive the First Year of College. WESLEY WOODLAWN HOSPITAL & ER REOPENS WITH LIMITED SERVICES After a nearly six-week suspension of most operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, Wesley Woodlawn Hospital & ER reopened May 20. The facility had suspended its inpatient operations on April 10, leaving only its Emergency Department and associated support services available, to help support Wesley Healthcare's Hillside campus in its ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 20, it began offering surgical, procedural and inpatient services on a limited basis as it ramped up operations. Tripp Owings, CEO of Wesley Woodlawn, says he expected the process of fully reopening Wesley Woodlawn to take time, but anticipated ongoing growth of services as the community continued to become more comfortable with seeking care. "We will monitor utilization and community need carefully and continue to adjust capacity as needed," he says. KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER SHUTS EAST WICHITA ER Andover-based Kansas Medical Center closed its east Wichita emergency room two years after opening it, citing not enough patients were being directed to the ER. "We didn't have enough business and traffic," Kansas Medical Center CEO Badr Idbeis, MD, told The Wichita Eagle when it reported the closure in early April. "It was clear that it was not financially viable." Dr. Idbeis, a cardiothoracic surgeon, reportedly plans to open a cardiology office in the 10,000-square-foot facility. n Continued from page 07 M D N E W S .
