was harvesting cartilage from a patient for reimplantation into a specific defect. Another relatively new procedure he learned is partial knee replacement. "Instead of replacing the whole knee, you replace the outside or the inside part of the knee or even smaller areas with defects," he says. In addition to the knee, Dr. Nelman has a special interest in the shoulder. Surgeries he performs include shoulder arthroscopy, total shoulder replacement and reverse total shoulder. Currently, he practices at the Crystal Clinic offices in Hudson and Kent. He is also assistant team physician for Kent State University. After residency training at Summa, he completed fellowship training at the University of Chicago. "My fellowship was in sports medicine and arthroscopy, with a particular focus on hip arthroscopy. That was something that was missing in the Crystal Clinic group and in the Akron/ Canton area at the time I returned, so I felt that it was a really good fit," he says. He points out that young or active people who have hip problems do not necessarily need a hip replacement. "For these people, a hip replacement is not always a good option. We can take care of torn cartilage arthroscopically, and we are even able to fix injuries like a torn gluteus medius tendon arthroscopically." When construction is completed later this year, Dr. Laskovski's office will be located in Crystal Clinic's new Green office building at the corner of Massillon Road and Turkeyfoot Road. Currently, he is practicing at the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center at 2818 S. Arlington Road in Akron. He is also a team physician for Green High School.
