Greetings, and welcome to MD News May. This month, we first stop in at Stony Brook University Cancer Center, where oncologists in the Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program offer diagnostic testing and a wide variety of personalized treatments. Fortunately, new screening guidelines mean that lung cancer has the potential to be found earlier than ever, when more treatment options are available to patients. We then shift our focus to wound care. For Edward J. Kormylo, DPM, FACFAS, the quest to offer patients immediate relief as well as durable, long-term healing is personal. We'll take a look at his two centers on Long Island. Our clinical section this month focuses on women's health. We take up the question of treatment modali- ties for HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. The RxPONDER Trial suggests that some groups of women would be best served by hormone therapy alone, while others do better with a combination of the hormone therapy and chemotherapy. A separate article examines a possible con- nection between ovarian cancer and fibrosis, highlighting an incidental finding about a common prescription drug that may affect the risk of developing fibrosis. Finally, it is extremely important to order the appropriate follow-up studies for breast imaging, as expert Daniel L. Freidlin from Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP explains. We also look at physician and practice news from across Long Island. Of interest, Ed Brennan, Director of Marketing at Long Island Community Hospital, went all the way to Oakland, CA to help with vaccination efforts there. Nearer to home, investors are facing market uncertainty, but should avoid panic-driven decisions, as Dave B. Rao of RAO Wealth Partners reminds us.
