In the 1970s a parcel of land came up for sale in Essex and Charlie jumped on the opportunity to expand westward. Coincidentally but fittingly, the Building Center sits on the very same land Cap farmed some 100 years ago. The BC is now owned by two of Charlie's daughters and the 4th generation is on site as well. While we are extremely proud of our past, we are 100% focused on our future, says CFO Tim Huff. The company has grown to two locations, one in Essex and one in Gloucester. For over 118 years the company has a very family sense of culture. Over one-half of our full-time associates have been with the company for over ten years. People who work here stay here; that's part of what makes us special. The BC team understands their clients' needs, so can quickly and skillfully execute whatever the ask. We have two in-house kitchen designers, and 5 outside sales reps that service the North Shore and Southern NH. We are adept at handling the needs of builder, architect, or interior designer and can pivot accordingly to furnish the project materials they require. We carry it all: framing lumber, siding, windows, doors, roofing, flooring & stair parts, kitchen and bath cabinetry, granite countertops, decking & railing, millwork, trim, paint & hardware, power tools, landscaping/lawns & garden. You can find it at the BC. We have earned awards for service. We take service very seriously; a collection of service awards corroborates that commitment. We call that – On-Time & In-Full (OTIF). OTIF is a measurement of On-Time & In-Full delivery. We will deliver what you want when you need it. Over 98% of our deliveries in 2021 have been delivered on time and in full. We have a full fleet of delivery vehicles and free delivery. "Our reputation is your reputation, and it's our job to keep your job on schedule!" In order to have a successful project you need to work directly with the builder and have an open line of communication. Since 1949 we've been part of the largest buying cooperative in the industry, which is LMC, but we're still a medium size business which allows us to offer competitive pricing and to source a wide range of products while also maintaining the agility of a small business. It's the best of both worlds for our customers. "It's still a relationship business. What our customers want more than anything is a reliable supplier. We never want to be the reason for a delay, and our mission is to keep you on schedule with what you need when you need it so you're inspired to call back and place your next order with us."
